Employers pay nearly $1 billion per week for direct workers’ compensation costs.
It is essential that workplaces, no matter the size of staff or number of employees, provide access to first aid supplies in the event of injury or illness. (1910.151(b))
Compliance
Employers should check their first aid cabinets against the latest edition of the standard and make the necessary changes. In determining which class of kit is more appropriate for a given workplace, employers should conduct a workplace hazard assessment to first decide if a Class A or Class B minimum fill best fits the type of hazards at the facility.
Maintenance
First aid kits should be inspected at least monthly or following a first aid incident when the product is used. Cabinet surfaces should be disinfected regularly.
American National Standard
ANSI/ISEA Z308.1-2021 is the voluntary industry consensus standard that establishes minimum performance requirements for first aid kits and their supplies that are intended for use in various work environments.Â
